Bluey Inspired Cake Recipe


Nothing beats Bandits famous 'Duck cake' but this one comes pretty close. The Bluey fan in your life will love this cake and it will make any birthday party, big or small, extra special.

The ingredient of Bluey Inspired Cake Recipe

  • 500g icing sugar mixture plus extra to dust
  • 250g ready to roll icing
  • royal blue concentrated food gel to tint see note
  • egg yellow concentrated food gel to tint see note
  • pink concentrated food gel to tint see note
  • white concentrated food gel to tint see note
  • sky blue concentrated food gel to tint see note
  • black concentrated food gel to tint see note
  • 250g pkt unsalted butter at room temperature
  • pinch salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 60ml 1 4 cup milk at room temperature
  • 3 x 600g pkt ready made mud cakes

The Instruction of bluey inspired cake recipe

  • dust a flat surface with icing sugar knead a little of the icing tint with a little royal blue food gel and knead until well combined this is for behind the ears and eyes shape some of the icing into two triangles to make ears cover remaining royal blue icing with plastic wrap and reserve clean surface of any dye repeat process with a small amount of the remaining icing and tint with egg yellow and pink food gels to make a pinkish yellow colour make two smaller triangles to fit inside the larger blue triangle ears wrap any remaining pinkish yellow icing in plastic wrap and reserve
  • brush the back of the pinkish yellow triangles with a little water and secure to the larger blue icing triangles to make the ears set aside overnight to dry this will make them stand up on the cake
  • use electric beaters to beat the butter in a bowl until very pale and creamy add the icing sugar salt and vanilla and beat until smooth and fluffy gradually add milk beating until well combined tint buttercream with a little white food gel and beat to lighten see note tint with a little sky blue food gel and beat until well combined
  • spread a little blue buttercream in the middle of a cake board or flat serving plate and top with a cake icing side up this secures the cakes to the board top with the remaining cakes placing the top cake icing side down this gives you a flat top surface to decorate
  • spread a little of the buttercream over the top and sides of the cake to cover filling any gaps and securing loose crumbs use a large cake scraper or clean ruler to smooth out the icing place in the fridge for 30 minutes to chill
  • gently beat the buttercream to remove any air bubbles spread over top and sides of cake until smooth place in the fridge for 1 hour to set
  • meanwhile dust a flat surface with icing sugar knead a little of the reserved white icing tint with the sky blue food gel and shape into eyebrows set aside repeat with a little of the remaining white icing and tint with black food gel to make the eyes and nose shape the reserved pinkish yellow coloured icing into a muzzle and royal blue icing to make the oval area behind the eyes use any remaining white icing to shape into large oval shapes for the eyes and tip of the nose
  • brush the back of the white icing eyes with a little water and secure to the royal blue oval shapes brush the back of the black eyes with water and secure on top of the white circles use a little of the remaining buttercream to secure the eye pieces to the cake
  • brush a little water on the back of the black nose and secure it to the muzzle repeat with a little piece of the white icing to make the nose tip and secure to the black nose use a flat bladed knife to score a mouth under the black nose use the buttercream to secure the muzzle area to the cake use a little buttercream to secure the eye brows and the ears to the cake serve
