Sloppy Joes


Nothing says comfort food better than tasty lamb mince on a fresh hamburger bun.

The ingredient of Sloppy Joes

  • 2 tsp olive oil or canola oil
  • 500g coles 3 star lamb mince
  • 1 medium brown onion
  • 1 2 red capsicum
  • 1 celery stick
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 3 4 cup water
  • 1 2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 1 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 1 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 2 cup reduced fat greek style yoghurt
  • 1 2 tsp lime zest
  • 2 tsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 4 green drumhead cabbage
  • 1 4 continental cucumber
  • 2 tbsp fresh mint chopped

The Instruction of sloppy joes

  • heat a large heavy frying pan over medium high heat add the oil and then add the lamb mince cook breaking up the mince with a spoon for about 8 minutes or until brown if the mince exudes a lot of oil strain the cooked mince in a sieve and discard the excess oil then return the mince to the pan
  • reduce the heat to medium and then add the onion capsicum celery and garlic cook stirring often for about 5 minutes or until the onion begins to turn translucent stir in the water and cook scraping up the brown bits from the bottom of the pan for about 1 minute or until the water reduces by about half
  • reduce the heat to medium low stir in the tomato sauce soy sauce worcestershire and tomato paste and cook for about 8 minutes or until the sauce reduces and the mixture thickens slightly season to taste with salt and pepper
  • meanwhile to make the slaw in a large bowl whisk the yoghurt lime zest and juice and cumin to blend add the cabbage cucumber and mint and toss to coat season the slaw to taste with salt and pepper
  • to serve spoon the lamb mixture on the bun bottoms then top with some of the slaw and then the bun tops mound the remaining slaw alongside the sloppy joes and enjoy
