Simple Golden Syrup Cake Recipe


Using a combination of plain and self raising flours creates the dense mixture desired for this cake. Golden syrup is incorporated in the batter as well as drizzled on top, making it the perfect treat for the sweet-toothed.

The ingredient of Simple Golden Syrup Cake Recipe

  • 250g salted butter chopped
  • 250ml 1 cup golden syrup plus extra to serve
  • 190g 1 1 4 cups plain flour
  • 150g 1 cup self raising flour
  • 100g 1 2 cup caster sugar
  • 180ml 3 4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs beaten whisked

  • preheat oven to 160c 140c fan forced grease a 19cm square cake pan line base and sides with baking paper
  • place the butter and syrup in a small saucepan over low heat cook stirring until butter is melted remove from heat set aside for 10 minutes to cool
  • place the plain and self raising flours and the sugar in a large bowl add the milk and eggs and stir until just combined gradually add the butter mixture stirring until smooth and combined pour mixture into prepared pan
  • bake cake for 1 hour 15 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean see notes allow cake to cool in pan
  • serve cake warm or cold drizzled with extra golden syrup
